Brief

Tranquil, part of the 2CRSi group, are a world leader in the field of rugged, low energy IT systems. They specialise in the design, and manufacturing, of IT systems designed to withstand the world's harshest environments.

The marketing team at Tranquil approached us with a example video clip of someone driving over their rugged computer with an SUV; shot on an iphone. They simply asked if we could do something similar but better…

Never turning away from a challenge we decided to go much further to truly demonstrate the endurance of these machines. We pitched the idea of firing various elements including water, fire, gravel, dust and snow at high speeds toward the computer.

Our client said “Go for it” and we began pre-production.

 
 

 

Production

We shot this product advert in a blacked out studio in Manchester using the Phantom Veo 4K capturing 1000 frames per second. We brought on the special effects team (who’d just completed Netflix’s Bridgerton) to monitor the fire, water, snow and gravel in a safe and effective manner.

We kept the crew size to only key members in line with Covid-19 guidelines. In addition to our client this included Director, Producer, DOP, Camera Assistant, Photographer, Special FX Supervisor, Special FX Technician.

Shooting a product video like this with special effects, complex lighting setups and numerous moving parts requires patience. Each time we hit the product with gravel, dust etc. we had to meticulously wipe down, clean and reset the computer in order to go for another take.

The special effects team were able to pinpoint the impact of water droplets and mud hits to an incredibly tiny degree of accuracy making resets minimal.

Post-production

All content was graded and edited within our studio over the course of 3 weeks allowing for multiple revisions by the international marketing team.

With linkedin and twitter being key areas of focus for our client, we made sure the edit was snappy, impactful yet informative.

One month after launching this brand film the marketing team has managed to attain 715k views. Something not to be sniffed at.
