Jack Reading

Jack Reading was selected by British Cycling to represent GB at the World Championship in Australia in 2017. After a bit of a rocky start in 2018, we caught up with Jack in early September and shot him shredding the local trails that helped to turn his season around.

Brief

We were asked to create a fast paced, story driven mountain bike film that wasn’t just a carbon copy of everything else out there.

Jack hadn’t had the best start to the season and we wanted to focus on the mental stability required to ride downhill at a high level. We heard Jack’s story and thus ‘Fighting Back’ was born.

Production

We had to fast an nibble when filming Jack and kept equipment to a minimum. We had a drone team capturing all the aerial content and a small handheld crew capturing the slow motion content.

Capturing mountain biking requires a lot of resets as once the rider has gone past the camera the shot is over. In order to make the edit kinetic and compelling we had to dove tail each other all the way down the hill side. Filming took approximately 6 hours and is all condensed into a bite size 2.5min edit.
