How we shot 20 beauty assets for 3 brands, in just 2 days?

Creating high-quality content that stands out in a crowded social feed can be a difficult task, especially for beauty brands that rely heavily on visual appeal.

We recently undertook the challenge of shooting a batch of assets for three different beauty brands over a two-day period. Here's a behind-the-scenes look at how we managed this intensive shoot and produced stunning visuals for Byoma, Sol de Janeiro and Pixi.

Pre-Production and Setup

1. Planning and Preparation

Before the shoot, we spent considerable time planning every detail. This included:

  • Mood Boards: Creating visual references to ensure we were aligned with each brand’s aesthetic.

  • Shot List Creation: Outlining the types of shots needed, such as product close-ups, styled shots ands details on any video assets that would need movement.

  • Team Briefings: Discussing the vision, goals, and specific needs of each beauty brand and what vibe we wanted to go for for each.

2. Assembling the Team

A successful shoot requires a skilled and dedicated team. Our team included:

  • Creative Producer: Managing the crafting of each shot and also the schedule for the day.

  • Photographer: Playing with hard and soft lighting to create a diverse range of images nailing the briefs.

  • Videographer: For dynamic social media content and opportunities to capture behind-the-scenes footage.

  • Stylist: Ensuring products are clean and look their best with no scuffs or marks.

3. Setting Up the Studio

With our plan in place, we set up the studio to maximise efficiency:

  • Intentional Stations: We created each station whilst considering the upcoming ones, this was also thought about during the scheduling. Grouping shots together that use the same background colour saves a constant switching out of colouramas for example. Keeping all of the water tray shots in one morning helped too as this was a messier set up.

  • Lighting: Setting up versatile lighting to accommodate different moods and styles that could be easily adjusted between shots.

  • Props and Backdrops: Selecting props and backdrops that complimented each brand’s identity, including flowers, fruits and small accessories like hair clips and face rollers.

The Shoot: Product Photography

We started the day with product photography whilst having video jump in between each set up to capture some options with movement. Key steps included:

  • Lighting Adjustments: Ensuring each product was perfectly lit to highlight its features and reduce any glare and unwanted shadows.

  • Detailed Shots: Capturing high-resolution images from multiple angles to showcase textures and packaging of products as well as getting in some more creative and stylised options.

  • Consistency: Maintaining a consistent look across all products for a cohesive brand presence on social media.

Post-Production

After the shoot, the real magic happens in post-production:

1. Selecting the Best Shots

We carefully reviewed all the photos and videos, selecting the best ones for editing.

2. Editing and Retouching

Our editing process involved:

  • Colour Correction: Ensuring colours were vibrant and true to life.

  • Retouching: Removing any imperfections while maintaining a natural look.

3. Delivering the Assets

Finally, we organised the edited assets into folders and now get to keep them as a useful bank to be used on our portfolios and social channels.

Conclusion

Shooting a batch of social media assets in just two days is no small feat, but with careful planning, a skilled team, and a structured approach, it’s entirely possible. The results speak for themselves: high-quality, visually appealing content that enhances the brand’s presence on social media.
